Lullaby Concert

  • North Sydney Community Centre 220 Miller Street North Sydney, NSW, 2060 Australia (map)

The SCQ is embarking on a new style of concert designed to engage the ears and minds of babies and their big people in a peaceful space where everyone can relax and enjoy some live classical music.

This short concert will offer a chance to sit and take some time out from the busy and often chaotic holiday season and is aimed at creating a sense of calm for parents, grandparents, and young ones.

The quartet will perform a selection of soothing classics including Satie's meditative GymnopédieSchumann's peaceful Träumerei from his selection of pieces titled Scenes from Childhood, as well as Brahms’ enduringly popular Lullaby. The SCQ will also perform their own arrangement of Manuel de Falla’Nana from Suite Populaire Espagnole - a hauntingly beautiful lullaby sung by a grandmother to baby grandchild.

The performance is designed as a relaxing and peaceful activity and is targeted mainly towards babies. Older children are welcome but there won’t be dancing or music making activities within the event (such as in a music and movement class); however, there will be space to roam or to relax on mats, read some books or do some colouring in. The aim is that everyone gets to slow down and enjoy some calming classics without the worry of needing to stay perfectly still and quiet during the performance. At the end of the concert, light refreshments will be on offer and littlies can also enjoy the enclosed playground at the Centre.

This concert will take place at 10am on Friday December 9th at North Sydney Community Centre. A combined ticket for adult and child costs only $20. Click here to book tickets
