
Lullaby Concert #2
The SCQ is embarking on a new style of concert designed to engage the ears and minds of babies and their big people in a peaceful space where everyone can relax and enjoy some live classical music.
In this short concert the quartet will perform a selection of soothing classics including Satie's meditative Gymnopédie, Schumann's peaceful Träumerei from his selection of pieces titled Scenes from Childhood, as well as Brahms’ enduringly popular Lullaby. The SCQ will also perform their own arrangement of Manuel de Falla’s Nana from Suite Populaire Espagnole - a hauntingly beautiful lullaby sung by a grandmother to baby grandchild. The Witching Hour (Annandale, Hunter Baillie Church)
The Sydney Cello Quartet will explore music inspired by the nocturnal world. The concert includes Schubert’s Der Erlkönig, Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre, Mendelssohn’s Nocturne from Midsummer Night’s Dream, Debussy’s Clair de lune and premieres Sydney composer, Alicia Grant’s, uplifting work Solar Flares. In ‘The Long Dream of Home’ we explore composers and music touched by the loss of a homeland. Hear music by Kurt Weill, Erich Korngold, Bohuslav Martinu, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Igor Stravinsky and Ernest Bloch. On the program is a piece by Australian composer George Dreyfus who fled Nazi Germany for a new life in Australia as well as the premier of a newly commissioned work by Ukrainian-Australian composer Catherine Likhuta titled People of Sky and Wheat which refers to the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
